About the FlowWorks Mobile App

Monitor your network, respond to alarms, and review site data — from anywhere.

Overview

The FlowWorks Mobile App brings your monitoring network to your phone or tablet, giving operators, field staff, and managers direct access to site status, alarm notifications, and data graphs — without needing to open a web browser or log into the full web application.

The app is designed for users who need fast, reliable awareness of what is happening across their network at any time, including during storm events or emergency responses. Key capabilities include:

  • Viewing site status and real-time data across your entire monitoring network.
  • Receiving push notifications for alarms directly on your device — a more immediate and reliable alert method than SMS, which can be subject to carrier delays and spam filtering.
  • Reviewing site detail information and channel graphs in the field.
  • Acknowledging active alarms from your device.
  • Accessing a consolidated view of alarm events across all sites.

Note: The FlowWorks Mobile App is included with your FlowWorks account at no additional cost. Users with a Custom Dashboards subscription have access to additional graphing options within the app.

Navigating the App

After logging in, the app provides two primary ways to view and access your monitoring sites:

Site Map View

The Map view displays all sites you have access to as location markers on an interactive map. Tap any site marker to open that site's detail page. The Map view provides a quick spatial overview of your network and is particularly useful for field staff who need to see where sites are relative to their current location.

Site List View

The List view displays all your sites in a scrollable list. From the List view you can:

  • Sort sites to organize them alphabetically or by another available sort order.
  • Filter sites to focus on a specific subset of your network using status or site type filters (see Filtering Sites below).
  • Tap any site in the list to open its detail page.

Filtering Sites

Both the Map and List views support filtering, allowing you to quickly focus on sites that require your attention. Sites can be filtered by status or by site type.

Filter Type Option Description
Status Active Sites that are currently operational and transmitting data.
Status Inactive Sites not receiving transmitted data
Status Late Sites where data has not been received within the expected schedule.
Status Alarm Sites that have one or more active alarm events.
Status Notification Sites that meet the criteria to send a notification
Site Type Water Sites associated with water monitoring.
Site Type Sewer Sites associated with sewer or wastewater monitoring.
Site Type Climate Site with climate sensors
Site Type Facility Sites associated with a facility
Site Type Overflow/Outfall Outfall location
Site Type Rainfall Sites that report precipitation
Site Type Hydrometric Sites associated with stream flow or hydrometric monitoring.

Tip: During a storm event, filtering by Status: Alarm gives you an immediate view of all sites that have triggered alarms, so you can quickly assess where attention is needed across the network.

Viewing Site Details

Tapping a site from either the Map or List view opens the Site Detail page for that site. This page provides a comprehensive snapshot of the site's current state and data history.

Detail Description
Location GPS coordinates for the site.
Collection Method How data is collected at the site (e.g. manufacturer telemetry, FTP, API).
Starting Date The date from which data collection began at the site.
Most Recent Data Timestamp of the most recently received data reading.
Active Alarm Events A list of any alarms currently active at the site.
Channel Graph A time series graph of selected channels with a date picker to control the displayed range. Full-screen graph view is available. Users with a Custom Dashboards subscription have additional channel selection and view options.

Viewing Channel Graphs

Each site detail page includes a time series line chart displaying channel data for the site. The graph allows you to quickly assess how a site's readings have changed over a selected date range.

Date Range

Use the date picker on the graph to adjust the time period displayed. You can select a specific start and end date to zoom in on a period of interest, such as the duration of a storm event.

Full-Screen View

Tap the full-screen option on the graph to expand it to fill the entire screen. This is useful when reviewing data on a phone where the standard view may be small, or when presenting data to a colleague on a tablet.

Channel Selection

The channels available for graphing on mobile depend on your FlowWorks subscription:

  • Standard accounts: Channel selection and graph view options are limited to a default view for the site.
  • Custom Dashboards subscription: Additional flexibility to select which channels to display in the graph and adjust view options.

Note: The mobile app does not support pinch-to-zoom on graphs. Use the date picker to adjust the visible time range, or use the full-screen view for a larger display.

Alarm Notifications

Push Notifications

The FlowWorks Mobile App delivers alarm notifications as push notifications directly to your device. Push notifications provide a faster and more dependable alert than SMS text messages, which can be affected by carrier delivery delays and spam filtering.

When an alarm is triggered in FlowWorks, a push notification is sent to your device containing details of the alarm event. Tapping the notification opens the Alarm Detail view directly within the app.

Note: Alarm rules are configured in the FlowWorks web application. You must have alarm notifications set up in the web app before push notifications will be delivered to your mobile device. See the article Create a New Standard Alarm or Notification for more information.

Alarm Detail

Tapping an alarm notification — or selecting an alarm from the Active Alarm Events list — opens the Alarm Detail modal. This view shows the details of the specific alarm event. From the Alarm Detail view, you can acknowledge the alarm directly from your mobile device.

Note: Alarm acknowledgement on mobile follows the same rules as the web application. Acknowledged alarms are recorded in FlowWorks and visible to all users with access to that site.

Active Alarm Events View

The Active Alarm Events view provides a consolidated list of alarm events across all sites in your network — not just a single site. This is useful for getting a network-wide picture of alarm activity without needing to check each site individually.

  • By default, the view shows currently active alarm events.
  • Use the date picker to review historical alarm events from a specific date or date range.
  • Tap any alarm in the list to open the Alarm Detail modal for that event.

Tip: The Active Alarm Events view is particularly valuable during storm events. Managers and operators can open the app and immediately see all active alarms across the network, giving a real-time picture of how the system is responding — without logging into the web application.

Connectivity and Device Requirements

Internet Connection

The FlowWorks Mobile App requires an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular data) to load site data, display graphs, and receive alarm notifications. The app does not support offline mode.

Device Compatibility

The app is optimized for both phone and tablet form factors on iOS and Android. On tablet devices, the larger screen provides a better experience for reviewing channel graphs and site details, and is well-suited for use in a control room or vehicle during monitoring operations.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Ensure you grant the app permission to send notifications when prompted during installation. This is required for alarm alerts to reach your device. Enable push notifications when first installing the app:
  • Push notifications from the FlowWorks app are delivered directly through the app and are not subject to the carrier delays or spam filtering that can affect SMS alarm messages. For time-sensitive alarms, push notifications are the more reliable choice. Use push notifications instead of SMS for alarms:
  • During active storm events, filter the site list to show only sites in Alarm status. Combined with the Active Alarm Events view, this gives operators and managers a rapid network-wide awareness of issues as they develop. Filter by Alarm status during storm events:
  • If you need to review channel graphs in more detail in the field or during an event, a tablet provides a significantly larger graph area than a phone, particularly when using the full-screen graph view. Use tablet devices for detailed review:
  • Field staff can acknowledge alarms directly from the app as they respond to issues on site, keeping the alarm status current for the rest of the team without waiting to return to a desktop. Acknowledge alarms in the field:
  • When investigating a specific alarm or event, use the graph date picker to narrow the date range to the time window of interest. This makes it easier to see the data behaviour leading up to and during the event. Use the date picker on graphs to focus on events:
