Modify a Graph’s Axis Layout

By default, when two or more channels are plotted, each of them will appear on separate axes. You may want to alter this setting – for example, you may wish to overlap each channel on the same axis. This article explains how you can open axis layout options, and it also describes each of the available options. Note that some axis layout options are only available for time series graphs.

1. Opening the Axis Layout Options Menu

  1. Begin by plotting a time series or scatter plot graph.
  2. With your graph open, click Options. A drop-down menu appears.
  3. Select Axis Options.

Available Axis Options

The following describes each of the four available options.

Individually Stacked

  • This is the default layout setting that is automatically applied when you generate a time series or scatter plot graph.
  • Separate axes are displayed for each channel, stacked vertically.
  • You can customize the labeling of each y-axis with this option.
  • Y-axis scaling is determined on a per-channel basis - each axis scale is based solely on the respective channel. By default, y-axis scale is automatically determined, however you can modify the minimum and maximum value for each. You also have the option of inverting the y-axis for each graphed channel.
  • Data visualization only for the bottom-most graph will be mirrored in the zoom bar (time series only).

Single Axis (Time Series Only)

  • Displays all plotted channels along a single x-axis.
  • Y-axis units will be unspecified if graphed channels have differing units.
  • Allows you to specify a single label for the y-axis.
  • Y-axis scaling can be determined automatically, or you can customize the y-axis range by specifying a minimum and maximum value. You also have the option of inverting the y-axis.
  • All graph visualizations will be mirrored in the zoom bar.

Overlapped

  • Displays all plotted channels along a single x-axis.
  • Separate axes are displayed for each channel, stacked horizontally.
  • You can customize the labeling of each y-axis with this option.
  • All graph visualizations will be mirrored in the zoom bar (time series only).
  • Y-axis scaling is determined on a per-channel basis - each axis scale is based solely on the respective channel. By default, y-axis scale is automatically determined, however you can modify the minimum and maximum value for each. You also have the option of inverting the y-axis for each graphed channel.
  • All graph visualizations will be mirrored in the zoom bar.

Custom

  • Enables you to combine several channels and apply a single label.
  • Allows you to reorder and overlay channels vertically along the y-axis.
  • You can customize the labeling of each y-axis with this option.
  • Y-axis scaling is determined on a per-channel basis, and when channels are combined the axis can automatically scale accordingly. You have the option to modify the minimum and maximum value for each. You also have the option of inverting the y-axis for each axis.
  • All graph visualizations will be mirrored in the zoom bar.
  • Data visualization only for the bottom-most graph is mirrored in the zoom bar (time series only).

2. Click Replot Data

When you are finished modifying your graph's axis layout, click Replot Data.
